The Caribbean region faces critical water management challenges stemming from climate change impacts, infrastructure inefficiencies, and increasing demand across domestic, agricultural, and industrial sectors. We propose Aquachain, a blockchain-based system leveraging Solana’s scalable and cost-effective infrastructure to implement our water tariff structures which leverage real-time monitoring and tokenized transactions. The proposed water tariff structure considers and is not limited to Caribbean-based issues such as water availability. The system uses smart contracts to optimize water usage, reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW), incentivize wastewater treatment and facilitate fair pricing while adapting to seasonal and geographical variations.
